Core Beliefs
I have been blessed to have been able to, in different ways, improve the lives of many people – patients as a clinician; wonderful employees as an employer; dedicated practice owners as a management company owner; and students as a teacher of leadership classes. For those opportunities, I am eternally grateful.
My Why is to help people
live better.
Having spent most of my adult life in leadership roles on sports teams, in business settings, and with other organizations. My passion revolves around leadership and teamwork – personally learning and growing as a leader and team player; helping others develop a passion and drive for their growth as leaders; and building great teams. There is nothing like being on a team of leaders. I am inspired by teams who have influential leaders, in all positions, who share the same values, rally around a clear vision and goals, care about each other, have a ‘we over me’ mindset, and work together to achieve goals and expectations.
In my mind, Leadership and Teamwork are the heart of any successful organization.
Education
I am a graduate of Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, where I played basketball and graduated with a BA in biology. I received my physical therapy degree from the University of Central Arkansas. I have an MBA with a focus on organizational leadership from Bethel University in St. Paul.
Professional and Work Life
I have loved being a physical therapy business owner. I became a partner in OSI Physical Therapy based in Stillwater, Mn. in 1988 and was one of the principal owners until August 2023.
During my time with OSI, the practice grew from one clinic to nine locations across suburban St. Paul. OSI now has 50 employees including 23 physical therapists, 9 physical therapist assistants, two athletic trainers, and sixteen administrative and support staff. My business partner, Mike Ripley, and I recently sold OSI to two of our employees – Noah Bularz, DPT, and Lori Bularz, PTA, who are both excellent clinicians and leaders. Mike and I are very proud we could sell to Noah and Lori who will keep the practice independently owned. OSI’s Core Values are Passion, Dedication, Teamwork, and Humility, and since the practice started, OSI has been a relationship business.
I was also one of the principal owners and one of the founders of Therapy Partners, a management services organization for 20 independent therapy practices with over 40 clinics in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Therapy Partners provides health plan contracting and revenue cycle management, and I have had significant experience in working closely with and negotiating provider contracts with commercial health plans. We sold Therapy Partners to Maggie Henjum, DPT, in 2020.
Family and Personal Time
My wife, Mary, and I live in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, a beautiful St. Paul suburb. We have two wonderful adult children, Kathryn and Jay. They are my pride and joy, and they have been great role models for me as they have grown. I am very active, and I love to play golf, ride bike, hike, run, and pull for the Minnesota Twins.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with you to help you grow as leaders and business owners.
LET'S GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.
